Colombians can invest and manage their business in the USA with an E-2 visa

Most Colombians are unaware that the United States has maintained a trade agreement with Colombia since June 10, 1848, for the E-2 visa. A Colombian citizen who wishes to invest and manage their business in the United States can apply for an E-2 Investor visa. With the E-2 visa, the investor will be authorized to manage their business and live with their spouse and children under 21 years of age in the United States. The spouse will be able to apply for a work permit in the United States, and the children will be able to study.

Requirements

• Be a Colombian citizen;
• The investment must be substantial. The minimum amount is not defined by law; it must be sufficient to ensure the company’s successful operation.
• The investment must be a real company. It must be physically operating and properly established. (Selling products or services.) Speculative investments (such as stocks, bonds, or the stock market) are not considered valid for the E2 visa.
• The business must not be marginal, meaning it exists solely for the purpose of obtaining an E2 visa or operates at a loss. The business’s income cannot be limited so that the visa holder can barely survive in the United States.
• The investor must have control over the funds to be invested. Loans secured against the company’s assets are not permitted.
• The investor must come to the United States to develop and manage the business. If the visa applicant is not the principal investor, he or she must be employed in a supervisory, executive, or highly specialized capacity.

Visa Validity

The E-2 visa for Colombian citizens is valid for five years. It can be renewed indefinitely as long as the US company continues to operate and the visa applicants meet the requirements mentioned above.
