Entertainers and entertainment groups can demonstrate their qualifications through major commercial success, achievements outlined in trade journals or newspapers, recognition from critics or experts, or high salaries and compensation.

The P-1A visa is for professional athletes who demonstrate a high level of skill and international recognition. They must show evidence of participation in a prestigious athletic competition or league. Individual athletes or teams can apply.
The P-1B visa is for entertainment groups with at least two members, 75% of whom have performed together for at least a year. Each member must play an integral role, and the group must show evidence of international recognition.
To apply for a P-1 Visa, athletes or entertainers must be sponsored by a U.S. employer or organization. The application process involves:
- Filing Form I-129 with USCIS, including supporting documents and fees.
- Collecting essential documents, such as evidence of international recognition, contracts, and recommendation letters.
- Filing Form I-129 with USCIS, with the option for premium processing.
- Attending a visa interview at the nearest U.S. consulate or embassy after USCIS accepts Form I-129.
Individual athletes may be granted a visa for a maximum of five years, which can be extended for an additional five years. After the extension period expires, the athlete must return to their home country.
Teams of athletes are initially granted a visa for one year, which can be extended in one-year increments. Essential personnel, such as coaches or trainers, are also initially granted a visa for one year but may extend for an additional 5 years.
Entertainers and entertainment groups are granted a visa for a maximum of one year, with extensions available in one-year increments until the performance or event is completed.
